Many teams reach impressive 10+ point leads over category competitors.

Saturday, February 13, brought Dance/Drill together again for two more competitions. In Eugene, Willamette Dance Team hosted teams at their Flood the Floor competition, and a bit further north, Tigard Tigerettes hosted an event as well.
The Flood the Floor competition was a smaller event, with Marshfield, North Bend, North Eugene, Philomath, Sheldon, and Willamette in attendance. These six teams brought forward routines in the Jazz, Traditional, Hip Hop, Pom, and Show categories.

All categories at Willamette were divided into one or two-team groupings, so the event wasn’t as dynamic in terms of competitive categories. However, the event did give teams an excellent opportunity to receive feedback from judges and a chance to qualify a second routine for the OSAA State Championships. All teams are permitted to bring one routine to State, as long as it has competed within the qualifying time parameters and includes five or more dancers.
North Eugene, a team that has dabbled in the Show category in the past, has returned to the category this season with a show entitled “Free.” As the only entry at this event, North Eugene represented the category well with a lovely performance and a first-place trophy.

Marshfield had a strong showing in Eugene, earning scores that would qualify both of their routines as second routines at State by surpassing 70 points and meeting the required time parameters. Marshfield’s Pom (4A) and Traditional (4A) routines scored 76.11 and 73.78, respectively. Willamette’s Hip Hop (6A), with a score of 75.17, also qualified as a second routine. These performances produced the three highest scores of the day at the Flood the Floor competition.
Willamette Flood the Floor Competition - First Place Finishes
Pom (4A): Marshfiled (76.11)
Hip Hop (6A): Willamette (75.17)
Traditional (4A): Marshfield (73.78)
Jazz (6A): Willamette (71.22)
Show (5A): North Eugene (65.72)
Jazz (4A): North Bend (63.33)
A bit further north, Tigard hosted a larger event with eighteen teams. Aloha, Astoria, Bend, Benson, Clackamas, Glencoe, Grant, Jesuit, Mountainside, Nelson, Silverton, South Medford, Sunset, Tualatin, Valor Christian, West Albany, West Linn, and Westview were in attendance, with the Tigard Tigerette hosts performing as an exhibition and not in the competitive lineup.
The most competitive category at the Tigard event was Hip Hop (6A). Seven teams took the floor with energetic and inventive routines. Westview had the right touch, outscoring the rest of the field by more than 10 points, landing first place with a score of 86.22.
The other highly competitive categories of the day were Jazz (6A), Pom (6A), and Traditional (6A). Each of these category divisions had five teams in their lineup.
Starting with the event high score of 88.11, Tualatin took the Jazz (6A) category. Notably, this was another impressive 10+ point lead over the rest of the field—certainly some standout teams at this event.

In the Pom (6A) category, Jesuit made their mark with an 82.11 and a first-place finish. Jesuit is new to the Dance/Drill roster this year, and it is exciting to witness their first-year success so far.
Traditional (6A) was also quite competitive, and Clackamas continued their winning streak in this category. “For River,” the Cavalettes’ contemporary routine in the Traditional category, has seen excellent success all season.
Several categories at Tigard saw teams break into the 80s, making it one of the higher-scoring events of the 2026 season so far. As the season progresses, more teams are refining their performances each weekend, bringing stronger execution and increasingly dynamic routines to the floor.

Other winning routines hitting the 80s mark in the 1A–5A groupings, with scores and first-place finishes, include West Albany’s Pom (83.61), Silverton’s Traditional (83.33), and Silverton’s Jazz (80.28). The 1A–5A Traditional category had three teams break into the 80s, with West Albany and Astoria not far behind Silverton’s lead.
Astoria’s Hip Hop also received first place in the 1A–5A group, with a 73.11 score landing clearly and comfortably in the lead for the day.

The Show category had a smaller presence at Tigard, with Clackamas and Grant representing the category. Grant returned to the Show category this year and, with a score of 73.11, qualified to advance this as a second routine to the State Championships if desired. Clackamas received their second Show category win this season with a score of 83.00. This brings the division one step closer to the five teams required to remain an official category.
So far, Sprague, Grant, and Clackamas have each scored 70 or higher in the Show category, meeting the criteria to perform a second routine at State. North Eugene has competed in the Show category at two events. Canby, Cleveland, and Newberg have also expressed or demonstrated their intention to compete in the Show category this season. Assuming these teams meet the required time limits with their selected routines, the category is on track to reach the five-team threshold. The event to watch will be Parkrose’s Mount Hood and Friends competition, where many of the Show Division teams are expected to face off for the first time this season.
