Objectivity Under Pressure - Understanding Variance in Judging Panels

Ever feel confident walking off the floor—only to be surprised by the scores? This session breaks down what’s really happening behind the judges’ table. We’ll explore how judges think under pressure, why score variance occurs (even on strong panels), and common misconceptions that can cloud interpretation of results. Coaches will walk away with practical strategies to build routines that read clearly across all judges, minimize subjective swing, and compete more consistently—plus insight into how the Judges Association is actively working to create more aligned and fair scoring.

Whether you want to coach a team, become a judge, volunteer for special events, offer services, or open up your spaces... Dance Team is an amazing activity for our young athletes! Getting involved with the DDCA is a wonderful way to directly help these young athletes/artists/students thrive!
